Playing Dead

Playing Dead, a Long Island based band, was formed in 2004 by singer/guitarist Sam Hoyos and bassist Dave Casale as a side project to experiment with different sounds and styles of music. In their early years, the band had a revolving door of musicians and an assortment of musical sounds. In 2007, Steven DeJoseph joined up with the two members and inspired the band to return to a more driving sound. The quartet became complete in 2009 with the addition of Tom DiLeo, another long time member of the Long Island music scene. Tom’s lead guitar and vocal harmonies added the final piece and the group has been going strong ever since.

Playing Dead hit the studio in late 2009 to begin recording their first full length with the new line-up, titled "In Your Head," and reached out to longtime friend and Audio Playground engineer/producer Keith Moore. Shortly after, the band was signed to Saint Elsewhere Records, fledgling record label and brainchild of Alex Amiruddin, formerly of The Movielife. Mainstays of the Brooklyn and Long Island music scene, Playing Dead have toured throughout the Tristate area as well as down the east coast, and out west, performing live in Austin, TX for 2011's SXSW music festival.

After 2 years of writing 2 albums worth of material, Playing Dead hit the studio again in 2012 to make their next record, "Home...Wherever That May Be." This record is Playing Dead's most diverse, with tracks like "Home," "A Friendly Kiss," and "Cynical and a Happening" showcasing their high energy, melodic style of indie rock along with slower, more haunting tracks such as "Disappearing Person," and "Dead Flowers." Their passion for making music shines through first and foremost, and has helped them win over fans along the way.
