Brooklyn Rock Lottery has always donated 100% of our proceeds to a local non-profit that benefits the Brooklyn community. This year, we have teamed up with PLOT, a mentoring program for at-risk youth between the ages of nine and twenty-one living in Brooklyn, New York; many of their mentees were involved, or are at risk of becoming involved, in the juvenile or criminal justice system. We will be donating 50% of all proceeds to PLOT, but also feel it is important to donate the remaining 50% to United For Puerto Rico in an effort to provide aid and support to those affected in Puerto Rico by the passage of Hurricane Irma and Hurricane María.

Brooklyn Rock Lottery has always been based on community (local musicians, local vendors, local charities) and diversity (participants from all genres, race, sex, age)...and of course music. This year more than ever, we hope  to create a night that celebrates these two core pillars---community & diversity.

Twenty-five hand picked musicians meet at 10am at the event's venue. These volunteers are organized into five groups through a lottery-based chance selection. The five drummers are the captains to guarantee that each band includes a drummer. The five separate groups are then assigned designated rehearsal spaces near the venue. The musicians then have twelve hours to create a band name and three to five songs (with a one cover-song limit). The five new groups then perform what they've created that evening in front of a waiting audience beginning at 10pm.
